Mesa house arrest inmate who cut off his GPS monitor in custody

He was captured near I-17 and Camelback Road Wednesday, U.S. Marshals say.

MESA, Ariz. — An inmate who was on the loose after he cut off his electronic GPS monitoring device Monday has been captured, U.S. Marshals say.

Authorities say Naomis A. Winfrey cut off his monitor and fled his Mesa home Monday. He had been under house arrest since July 30.

He was captured coming out of an apartment near Interstate 17 and Camelback Road, where U.S. Marshals where surveying.

He was convicted in 1993 out of Pima County to 25 years to life for first-degree murder, burglary and theft charges.
