PEORIA, Ariz. - A man is dead after he was shot four times on Friday, allegedly by his wife, Peoria police said.

According to police, Christine Deason called 911 on Friday hysterically crying and said her husband might be dead. She told dispatch he was walking towards the kitchen and fell on the floor.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found her husband laying on the floor with gunshot wounds. Deason said she shot him and the gun was upstairs. Police found a handgun on the kitchen table.

The husband was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to Peoria PD, he had four gunshot wounds to his back, arm and buttocks and none of the wounds were on the front of his body.

In an interview with police, Deason said she and her husband are going through a separation. The two were also recently evicted from their house, and he had already moved out.

He returned to the home Friday to collect some of his things. According to the police report, Deason said the two began arguing and went in the backyard.

Deason said he kicked something at her and then she ran inside away from him while he was chasing her, yelling, "I'm going to kill you."

Deason told police he got physical with her and continued saying, "I'm going to kill you." Deason told officers she ran into her bedroom and grabbed her husband's gun from underneath their bed, and then she invoked her rights to an attorney.

There was a witness at the home, a friend who had been living in the home with Deason and her husband for the last two years, who had a different version of events.

The witness told officers he was in the kitchen and saw the argument between the couple and said they argued for about 10 minutes in the backyard.

The witness said neither of them was running back into the home, like Deason described. He told officers Deason was yelling at her husband was telling her to stop. The two continued arguing, according to the witness, and then he lost sight of them.

He then told police he heard five gunshots from inside the house and heard Deason's husband, in pain, say "Are you going to kill me?" The witness said he heard Deason respond, "I hope you die. I hope you go to hell."

Police found five shell casings in the hallway on the second floor.

Police served a search warrant on Deason and photos were taken. There were no visible injuries on her.

Deason was arrested and booked on one count of second-degree murder.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the victim as Christopher Lane. That is the name of the street the couple lived on.
