Macaela Drake and William Farris are accused of burglarizing vehicles at Scottsdale trailheads and allegedly stole $3,000 purse, $2,000 in cash and credit cards from Danica Patrick.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Two people were arrested in connection to multiple car thefts at Scottsdale trailheads, including an alleged burglary of former NASCAR and IndyCar driver Danica Patrick last summer, according to a Scottsdale police report.

Police say William Farris, 39, and his girlfriend Macaela Drake, 26, are responsible for multiple burglaries of parked cars at Scottsdale hiking trails, including trails at the McDowell Mountains, Lost Dog Wash, Sunrise and Cactus parks.

Patrick told police in July 2018 her Land Rover was burglarized while she was hiking. Her passenger side window was broken when she returned to the Lost Dog Trailhead lot and her $3,000 Valentino purse and about $2,000 in cash were stolen.

Farris and Drake were tied to multiple other car thefts at Scottsdale trailheads, where they would mostly steal credit cards and gift cards, police said.

Police identified Farris and Drake on surveillance footage making purchases with stolen credit cards and officers arrested the couple at the Gateway Trailhead on Feb. 23.

After executing a search warrant, police said they found a gun, cocaine, meth, numerous gift cards and "burglary tools" in Farris' vehicle.

Drake was booked on 15 felony charges and Farris was booked on 21 felony charges including burglary, fraud, identity theft and drug charges.
