Man dead after car hits motorized wheelchair in Phoenix

A man in a motorized cart was crossing mid-block when the crash happened, police said.

PHOENIX — A man was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition and later pronounced dead after a crash in the area of 8th Street and Broadway Road Tuesday night, police said.

Phoenix police said the 63-year-old man in a motorized wheelchair was crossing mid-block when the crash happened. The 25-year-old driver of a Ford Crown Victoria crashed into him.

The driver of the Crown Victoria stayed at the scene, police said, and impairment was not a factor in the crash.
