22-year-old man arrested for allegedly shooting, killing man in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. — A 22-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday after he allegedly shot and killed a man in Tempe. 

Ashton Cook was arrested and booked into Tempe City Jail on Wednesday. He was later transferred to Fourth Avenue Jail in Phoenix, where he was held on manslaughter charges. 

Police and firefighters went to the area of Southern Avenue and Loop 101 around 8:30 p.m. in response to a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a man near a parking lot with a gunshot wound and began life-saving measures.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. 

The victim has not been identified, but detectives said the initial investigation indicated the victim and suspect knew each other. 

There is no threat to the public, and this is considered an isolated incident, police said.
