Son mourns father who died after being hit by truck while crossing Phoenix street

Boruch Pinkhasov was crossing Bell Road midblock near Third Street in a motorized wheelchair when he was hit by a Dodge pickup truck.

A family is in mourning after a man died when he was hit by a truck while crossing a street in north Phoenix on Friday.

Boruch Pinkhasov, 72, was crossing Bell Road midblock near Third Street in a motorized wheelchair when he was hit by a Dodge pickup truck.

Pinkhasov was taken to a local hospital after the accident around 6 p.m., where he was pronounced dead.

Pinkhasov's son Shane Pikasso described his father as a man who loved to cook, was a lot of fun and was very independent.

Pikasso said his father went to run errands yesterday around 5 p.m. He said he had asked his father several times not to go run his errands after dark.

“Many, many times over the years," Pikasso said.

"When I had to tell to my mom, she knew exactly what happened, like I saw it coming and it's happened."

The Phoenix Police Department said the 26-year-old woman driving the vehicle and her 2-year-old passenger were not injured.

The woman remained on scene after the crash. Officers determined she was not impaired and speed did not appear to be a factor.

Phoenix police said there were crosswalks and traffic signals in both directions of where the crash occurred, one at Third Street to the east and the other at Central Avenue to the west.

Pikasso said he is not mad at the woman, adding that it was an accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
