GILA COUNTY, Ariz. — The body of the missing Mesa canyoneer Shiloh Dorsett has been found by a search party, according to the Gila County Sheriff's Office.
Dorsett, 45, was declared missing on Saturday after hiking with another individual, the sheriff's office said.
The two were canyoneering near Cherry Creek when it received flash flooding, authorities stated. The other person was able to hike out of the canyon and get help.
Deputies attempted to conduct a search and rescue operation when they arrived on the scene but were unable to start it due to the flooding, the sheriff's office said in a press release. The Arizona DPS Ranger Helicopter was also requested but was unable to fly due to the weather.
Crews eventually found Dorsett's body around 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
His family said they wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
They asked for privacy as they grieve a loving husband of 11 years and father of a 10-year-old girl.
In addition to canyoneering, Dorsett's family says he loved rock climbing and bird watching.
"His adventurous spirit will never be forgotten. I love you Shiloh Dorsett," his wife said in a Facebook post on Monday.
A GoFundMe has been set up for Dorsett's memorial.
