PHOENIX — Vice President Mike Pence's upcoming campaign events in Arizona have been postponed "out of an abundance of caution" due to the surge of coronavirus cases in the state.
The vice president visited Arizona Wednesday, but did not hold campaign events.
Air Force Two landed in Phoenix where the vice president and state leaders talked about the COVID-19 response in Arizona.
After the meeting, Pence praised Gov. Doug Ducey for this work on slowing the virus in Arizona.
Pence said Arizona would get another supply of remdesivir, a drug shown to help severe COVID-19 patients.
Pence was slated to speak at a "Faith in America" event in Tucson, followed by a stop in Yuma – a hot spot for COVID-19 infections in the state – to talk about the state's efforts against the coronavirus, the White House said in an email last week.
The Trump administration said the Tucson event is being postponed but did not give a new date.
Trump visited Yuma last week to participate in a roundtable discussion on border security and held a rally in Phoenix, where thousands of people gathered inside Dream City Church while police dispersed peaceful protesters outside.
