Police arrest teenager in connection with fatal shooting in West Phoenix

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road. Hector Matthew Pena-Dominguez, 17, has died from his injuries, police said.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police have arrested a juvenile in connection with the shooting of another teenager in West Phoenix Friday afternoon.

Police confirmed that 17-year-old Hector Mattew Pena-Dominguez died of his injuries after being taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

According to reports, the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m near 6800 West Devonshire Avenue off Indian School Road.

Police said they were able to interview witnesses in the area after being told of the shooting.

Officers found an arrested the suspect, another young man, without incident. The suspect was booked into the juvenile detention center, police said.

"These senseless gun crimes need to stop," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Brian Bower.
