Man shot and killed by Phoenix police after throwing rocks at patrol car and officers

The shooting occurred near the intersection of 19th and Glendale Avenues.

PHOENIX — A man has died after he was shot by Phoenix police officers on Saturday evening in central Phoenix. Police identified the man as 34-year-old Ali Osman.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the area of 19th Avenue and Tuckey Lane just south of Glendale Avenue.

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department were leaving a different scene and driving through the intersection when they "observed several items striking their vehicle," Sgt. Brian Bower said.

Once the officers found out where the items were being thrown from they pulled into Tuckey Lane and found Osman throwing rocks at the car.

Bower says the officer told Osman to stop but he allegedly kept throwing the rocks at the officers.

"The officer gave commands to stop, one rock was thrown and as the individual was preparing to throw the second rock that is when the officer-involved shooting occurred," Bower said.

Osman was transported to the hospital but was died of his injuries.

No officers or community members were injured during the incident.

Bower says the investigation is still ongoing as they continue to talk to witnesses.
