MCSO unit involved in crash with suspected drunk driver, officials say

A portion of McDowell Mountain and Forest roads will be closed for several hours.

RIO VERDE, Ariz. — A vehicular crimes unit with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash involving an MCSO unit and suspected intoxicated driver in Rio Verde and officials are asking drivers to avoid the area. 

Deputies responded to the crash at McDowell Mountain and Forest roads in Rio Verde Wednesday afternoon. Officials said seven people were in the civilian car and six were transported to the hospital as a precaution, but there were no major injuries.

The driver, who was not taken to the hospital, is suspected of being intoxicated, MCSO officials said.  

Northbound traffic will be shut down at McDowell Mountain Road and officials will not be allowing southbound traffic through at Forest Road. The closure will likely last several hours while the crash is investigated.
